I saw Ninja Assasin!

http://www.facebook.com/#/video/video.php?v=111310143375

No offense to Rain, but for me, the best part of this movie is first 10 min where Sung acts as the main character. (Well, to me, he was.)

I went to see this movie prior to my surgery day. So, it's been more than 2 weeks past, but remember very clearly that I was so excited to see the movie started with Sung's face.

I've also seen many individual people blogging about this movie and saying that they decided to see this movie because of Sung. Yeah, we've been waiting to see him in the big screen like that. :D

The only complaint I have is that he did not speak any Japanese. He probably did not have to because his role name is "Hollywood." It's not his fault, but it hardly impressed me that it was actually in Osaka. (I know it's not, but I thought they want to pretend like so.)

Anyway, that's not important for me. What is more important to me is that Sung did excellent job there! I think Chinpira (that's how we call that type of guys in Japanese) may not be a bad role for Sung to stick with at least a few more times in some other movies or TV dramas.

Thank you for sharing, Sung

http://youoffendmeyouoffendmyfamily.com/around-the-horn/

Before I start talking about what Sung wrong and what I think about it, let me quickly explain why it took me some time to update this blog. I normally update this blog at least once a week. But I had 4-hour surgery on my belly resulting 2 nights hospitalization and 4 pucks of blood transfusion. Well, it was actually a scheduled one since a while ago and I'm getting better now. But I'm still resting at home at the moment. So, that's why I had to pause for a while.

Regarding what Sung wrote recently, first of all, I admire his courage sharing this whole story with his readers. It is not easy to trust people -- especially those online anonymous people who may quote your words with negative intention. (Hope what I'm doing here is not one of such deed.) But the fact he did probably indicates that he has somehow gotten over with it.

Just like many folks who left their comments to Sung's post, I'm also not the one who is in the position of giving any sort of advice. (Probably nobody is). But honestly, the first thought popped up to me is this -- I want to see his biological father. Maybe it is not too surprising idea because I'm a big fan of Sung's. I'm just curious to see how his father looks like even though he did not mean anything to Sung in their lives. I do want to send a flower to him just to let him know that I thank him for existing and made Sung possible to exist this world. I just want him to feel proud of Sung and feel lucky that he deserves a bouquet or some sort just because he is Sung's biological father.

This actually reminded me about my hubby's side family story. Well, it is not the same story, but have something in common. I've never seen my husband talking to his father since I met him about 9 years ago. Well, correction. I did see him talking a few words over the phone -- something very administrative --, but that's about it. They haven't seen each other for more than 10 years. But funny thing is, I've seen him many times in person. I visited him many times in Korea -- probably total around 10 times. I often exchange email messages with him. My father-in-law and me are like best friends. But I never ask why they don't talk each other. Well, maybe I asked something like that, but neither side of them gives me any answer anyway. It seems that they both know that they don't have to talk or see each other. I tried finding what is the best of them -- or for the whole family including me. But there is no answer. All I know is that my father-in-law and I have a pretty good relationship while my husband and his father never talk.

So, I suppose every father-and-son realtionship is unique. It's ok if you decided not to talk. But if someone else decided to talk to that person and there is something they can share, then, that's good, too.

clips, clips

This was a good week because my Google alert captured many legit links about Sung. Should I post them all at once or save for up-coming weeks...?

Let me start with this one:

Knots (2010?)

OK. Today's google alert got me this link!

http://epicprops.com/blog/?p=626

Quote:

• Michael: I already mentioned my new company out of New York “small Media LARGE.” In addition to that, I am in post-production on a new film which was written and stars Kimberly-Rose Wolter called “Knots” which is a romantic comedy about a dysfunctional family of wedding planners in Hawaii. It also features Illeana Douglas (Cape Fear), Sung Kang (Fast & Furious: Tokyo Drift, and reunited with me from my first film The Motel), Mia Riverton (Red Doors) and Janel Parrish (for those tweens out there, she was Jade in the Bratz movie). It’s a great cast and we had a blast shooting out in Oahu. That film should be done sometime next year.

Here are other links I found with new keywords I got today:

http://www.islandfilmgroup.com/cms/index.php?page=projects
http://redheadproductions.net/projects/knots/
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1542484/

This time, I should not put any pix to avoid confusion.

It's your chance to see Sung in person!

http://www.slanteyefortheroundeye.com/2009/11/its-edumactional-although-it-has.html

If you are lucky enough to be in LA area on 11/18/2009, drop by USC Symposium: Korea and the World where Sung will be giving his speech on "Between food and film."

Unfortunately, I won't be able to make it because I live in East Coast. :( But looking forward to learn the outcome if any will be posted online afterward. Hope people take pictures and post them to online with a tag, "Sung Kang."

Sung is in TV trailer!!!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IRvivzlhBBM

My husband found Sung in this trailer earlier than I did while we were watching TV together on Sunday night.

I missed this on TV and quickly searched youtube and found it! (and took a screen shot, as usual). I'm so excited now!

Nov 25th, 2009

I just checked out Flixster on my iPhone and confirmed Ninja Assassin will be in the theaters from 11/25!

Also, thank to Monica (again), I find a bit more about what Sung did in Hawaii. Check this out:

http://www.alivenotdead.com/kimmily/Hawaii-shoot-profile-816249.html

I will put more if I find anything else.

This pix is from: http://www.life.com/image/92579778

Sounds like he is back in LA unless he is already in the middle of another project outside LA.

Latest from Hawaii?

According to Sung's latest blogging, Sung was in Hawaii for filming:

http://youoffendmeyouoffendmyfamily.com/mojo-moment/

I can't find info about this film in IMDB yet. Seems to be still premature or under development. Hope I get to see it in next 1-2 years.

Wish everyone to have a happy and fun Halloween!

Shame on me... I didn't know this!

http://youoffendmeyouoffendmyfamily.com/author/sung/

I can't believe this! I had no idea that Sung has been updating his blog there since a while ago. I had no idea about this until my good friend, Monica, told me about this today. Uh... I thought I'm one of the top stalkers. But I failed...

Anyway, now I know and I must read them all.

Based on the latest one, he is in Hawaii now (and singing, apparently). I have a friend who live in Hawaii and recently saw the crew members of Lost. I will ask him if he see some other location shooting in Hawaii. Well, I know Hawaii is not only one island. But they are not that big, right?

I don't know what happened to his facebook account

I found Sung's fb account no longer exits or accessible from us. I also heard from other fans talking about it. Honestly, I have no idea what is going on. Hope everything is ok with him. He may figured that it's not good poeple (like me, maybe?) keep tagging him with some images that he wouldn't approve. But there is not way to completely stop other fans to do that. Hope we were not disturbing him...

Anyway, his account with mySpace is still up and we can send message to him there. He may have figured that he is not very fb type or realized it's hard to keep things under control with fb.

Sung had a good time in Thailand

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=djDHjXFT5dk

Thanks to Monica, I saw how much Sung enjoy his time during Bangkok International Film Festival 2009. Seems like it's a must visit vacation place.

Input from other fans = appreciated!

http://img513.imageshack.us/img513/3198/b0630.jpg

Thanks to tØEy from Thailand, I got to know more about what was going on in Thailand last month. Some people ask me about the kids who appear in the photo with Sung. I'm not 100% sure - remember, I'm just a fan and online stalker - but I think I've seen the kids in some other pictures taken back in 2006 or so. I believe - again, don't quote on me! - they are his niece and nephew. Sung wrote about his younger sister in one of his articles in his blog. Another rumor said it's his brother's kids who married to a Thai girl. I have no idea about that and I guess I shouldn't spread a possibly false idea like that...

If anyone of you know a bit more legit idea, feel free to leave a message here.

This picture is a screenshot from a site where many of his new images are sold. Well, it's not free. But I just took a screenshot and save it as .jpg image, making this as my own clip, hopefully. I think this blog is all about my clip sharing. But I do respect the poeple who does not want me to quote their images even as a clip. So, do let me know if you find this is not something I should do.

Back from Thailand yet?

I really like hearing from other fans especially whom providing me with info about Sung that I did not know. This pic was found from the link left by tØEy. Thank you very much!!

Sung looks very nice in this picture.

Can't wait to see Ninja movie this fall/winter...

Is he in Thailand now?

Thanks to my friend, Monica, I found Sung is going to be in Bangkok International Film Festival.

He may be already in Thailand by now. I know there are many strong fans from Thailand supporting Sung like I do or even more. So, hope they get to see Sung in person.

Need more idea for this blog

Finally, I got my WiFi access from home back! Our new apartment had no WiFi from 8/27 to 9/16. I did not know service transfer needs this much time.

Anyway, now, I can resume my weekly update here. :)

But the problem is, I don't know anything new about Sung lately. All I have is screenshots captured from some old films at the moment.

Anyone has any idea for me?

Black Cod fish

Sung has updated his status at facebook recently like this: "Picked up a couple of Beautiful Black Cod fish. Ready to filet and marinate. Will go great with a cold Sapporo Reserve. If your around this long weekend come by Saketini." Too bad, I'm not in West Coast any more. :( But it's good to know what he is up to.

This picture has nothing to do with Black Cod Fish. It's just my iPhone's screen capture from BLT. I watched this movie again on my iPhone and enjoyed again. It's a must see for all of Sung Kang fans.

By the way, in case you wonder why I skipped updating this last week, I was in the middle of moving. I did not move too far, but only about 30 miles. Just trying to move a little closer to me and my husband's work. And we still do not have WiFi at home though I have completed online service transfer request a few weeks back. I'm updating with free WiFi at the library near my new place.

Bonus feature~~~

I *officially* downloaded Fast and Furious from iTunes Store last weekend! I'm not sure if it is ok or not. (Probably not.) But I could not help but taking more screenshots and posting here. This one is from Chapter 21 directed by Vin Diesel.

iPhone as a hacking tool

OK. I'm bad. I stole this picture from another fan site. I hope the admin does not kick me out by this...

This fan site protects image files uploaded there. If you right click on the image, you get warning message pops-up. But if I do the same from iPhone, I have no problem downloading the image. Not sure if it is iPhone specific or Safari browser specific behavior.

Anyway, I wonder what kind of food it was. I want to know what are Sung's most favorite foods.

By the way, I saw this article captured by my google alert:

http://www.hyphenmagazine.com/blog/2009/08/asian-american-actors-on-a-blo.html

talking about Sung's blog on alivenotdead. Sung stopped updating his blog there and started his own blog at sungkang.com, where we can see his last update on 2/19/09. I see his interview or someone else talking about him online here and there. But I miss Sung's own writing. He should do twitter or status update on facebook if blogging is too much for him, making my net stalking easier. :P

Can't wait for Nija movie

I started seeing more people talking about Nija movie coming up in November this year. I'm eagerly waiting...

By the way, we don't have Blue-ray player. I wonder if we should buy one and buy Fast and Furious in Blue-ray or not. We are financially very tight these days...

Monday, August 3, 2009

Please tag Sung more in all kinds of pix sharing sites!

It's really good to see people tagging Sung in their pictures posted on facebook! Though Sung ends up with not approving some of them later, I get to see those pictures and save in my local disc before tagging removed. I'm not sure if that is called illeagal action. But so far, I got no complaints from anywhere...

I'm saving a few more I saw today for next week.

Sung in Blue-ray

Thanks to my friend, Monica, I got these great pictures of Sung's a few days ago. As always, I hope I'm not infringing any copyright here.

It seems to be taken when Sung was in the release event of Fast and Furious on DVD and/or Blue-ray. He looks excellent in both pictures~~~

I found another link about Tokyo Drift on Blue-ray, where we can see a screenshot from the scene when Han appeared for the first time in this movie.

http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/movies.php?id=5609&show=review

I know I have a bad habit of mixing two different thing in one article. This link is not related to these pictures. So, hope nobody get confused by this.

Coming on DVD soon!

http://www.homemediamagazine.com/product-news/diesel-universal-have-high-hopes-fast-furious-16416

I'm so happy to know Fast and Furious will be available in DVD this summer! This article include a comment from Sung as well. I heard Sung is featured in some clips come as bonus features. I can't wait~~~

Let's vote

http://www.film.com/features/story/casting-eventual-jon-kate-movie/28989131

I don't know about this TV Show, "John and Kate, but it sounds like Sung's next possible role. Let's vote for Sung! I saw John Cho is leading at the moment, but I want to see Sung playing this kind of role. So, go to this article and vote for Sung!

"Mental" Rainy Days (2009)

(As always, pix here is very old. Not related to this drama.)

I just found this:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1309540/

I can see his latest work on TV tomorrow! How exciting~~

Too bad, I don't have a cable. But I think I can still see Fox with our classic antenna. :P Or I can check the episode online later. Yeay!

Other fan site

I stole this picture from another Sung Kang fan's MySpace page. This one is from Die Hard 4. This is the only DVD I don't have among the ones Sung appears and the ones I can get from amazon.com. I don't know how I can get the rest of his work...

Anyway, I recently encountered a Japanese girl's blog talking about Sung. Though she does not update her blog with the category dedicated for Sung very often, it's good to see another Japanese girl adoring Sung Kang online. I got her "OK" to post the link to her blog:

http://blogs.yahoo.co.jp/easylove0422/folder/618043.html

What happened to "Helium"?

I checked back IMDB now and found "Helium" is no longer listed there. :( I'm not sure what happened... I wonder if there is any way to get it in any format.

OK. I admit that I'm running out of what to say. So, I googled with key words, "Sung Kang," and hit this:

http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoid=3954184

I think I've seen this before. But I have not posted this link.

I'm going to California in late July. But it's not LA. I may change my destination to LA, then, I will visit Saketini. But maybe not this time...

Funny face series

If you are in love with someone, you love not only his/her cool sides but also funny/not-so-cool side as well. I confirmed that I do love Sung because I love all kinds of his facial expression even like these.

An old picture

I hope Sung does not mind I post this old picture that I stole from another site. Well, if he or the site owner does not like what I did, he'll probably let me know about that. So, I will keep this here until that happens.

I've already talked about how Sung felt about his dog, Simba, who passed away a few years ago. So, I know Sung is a dog person rather than a cat person. But I think he has a potential to become cat person. Well, I used to be a very strong dog person myself and sold to the world of adoring cats about 17 years ago. My family always had a dog or two since I was four years old. I still remember I had a really good time with them even though I was bitten by one of them a few times. I was even bitten by my friend's dog who look just like Simba. Yes. I was a Chow who bit me. It was not a serious injury, but I had to take a day off from school and I later had to have a surgery to make the scar look less ugly. Well, that did not make me start keeping distance from dogs. I still like dogs in general. I still pat them whenever I meet friendly-looking ones. I will probably get myself a dog if I can afford a single house in the future.

Anyway, you don't have to have a special incident to turn into a caat person. You just need to start living with one. Soon, you will realize what you missed by being only a dog person. It's still hard to picture Sung holding a cat. But I have a feeling that may happen in the future if it hasn't yet. A dog person is a strong candidate of a cat person at the same time, based on my own experience.

Secret Identity (2009)

http://www.gr2.net/

I met the editor of a graphic novel called "Secret Identity," to which Sung contributes. He was my friend's frined's husband. He told us that he is just back from LA where the book signing took place last week. He showed me a picture of Parry Shen and others. Though he has never met Sung in person, sounds like he knows Sung pretty well.

To be honest, I'm not even a big movie fan or into Asian American stuff while I consider myself as a big fan of Sung's. Am I contradicting myself? Maybe. It does not mean that I'm not interested. But probably because I'm not a US citizen or speak English natively, I feel I'm not one of them. I do enjoy Justin's movies and other Asian American works. But I'm not too enthusiastic when it comes to Asian American movement in general. Even for the mainstreaming movies, probably I watch them less than average people in US do. So, I know only a few very famous actors/actresses and I don't recognize names of these days' hot actors/actressed most of the time. When I say "I'm a big fan of Sung's," people think I must know all kinds of actors/actresses. But it was just an accident. I accidentally saw Tokyo Drift on my way to Tokyo from DC. It was a in-flight entertaiment that hooked me up with Sung. After that, I just cannot get him out of my head and started searching all the movies and short films Sung is in.

But I still don't watch other movies Sung is not in very much. I watch only some very famous ones that my husband wants to watch at the theater. Actually, my husband watches movies 20 times more than I do. He always rents DVDs and keep watching movies almost every evening. But I don't join him because I don't find most of the movies Sung is not in interesting enough to finish. I just ask my husband to give me a digest after he watch them.

But anyway, I think I will like this book. I will order one online later.

Looking from the side = also good!

I was going to grab another picture from Sung's facebook page, but it was not accessible. Not sure if anything went wrong... Hope he gets his profile accessible from others again soon, so I can see his recent looks tagged by someone else.

It's almost end of May 09, meaning, it's been 2.5 years since I fell in love with Sung. I think I never failed to think of him each day since then. He is always on my mind.

Han Lue before/after Tokyo

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20090522142502AAoUAqX

I just came across this discussion today. It's good to see people talk about Han Lue.

I also cannot wait to see the bonus feature which is planned to be included in DVD where I can see more about Han and Dom.

I wonder if Justin can create another spin off film focusing Han as a main character. But Sung is getting older... and it may not be easy for him to keep acting like early/mid 20's. As you may know, if you a a big fan of Han Lue like I am, Han died in 2006. So, Has cannot be older than back then.

I just personally want to see Sung doing something crazy in Tokyo. He does not have to be Han for that.

I went to JUMP store this weekend

I guess I don't really have no choice but keep using stolen pictures because I don't get to see Sung in person and take pictures on my own. But if the photographer contacts me and request a credit or the picture to be removed, I will comply. So, feel free to leave your comment here if you are the photographer.

Anyway, what I'm going to write this time is not related to this picture. I just need to use at least one picture of Sung's every time I update this blog. But like I said, I don't have a stock of pic that I can offically freely use. So, I just edit whatever picture I got online and re-use it for my own sake.

OK. I just wanted to say that I went to JUMP store in SOHO, NYC on Saturday. I purchased a pair shoes (or boots?) called "TABI."

http://www.zappos.com/product/7506047/color/3

"Tabi" is a Japanese word for a traditional Japanese style socks.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tabi

It does have a "tabi" feeling, but it is not a tabi, which does not bother me. After all, designers or marketing people can call whatever they designed to however they like, I suppose.

Film Festival = BLT reunion (?)

http://www.vconline.org/festival/
http://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Los-Angeles-Asian-Pacific-Film-Festival/7012581963

I really hope the person who took this picture does not mine me re-using it here. Sorry, I cannot even give a credit because I'm not sure to whom I should do so.

Anyway, I found this pix from facebook because someone tag Sung. I was like, "Wow..." It's so good to see them together like this. Everyone looks good. I searched fruther about this event and found a few more pictures:

Justin did it!

I know it's already more than a month passed since the release day of Fast and Furious. I was late. But finally, my husband and I went to the nearest theater to catch how Justin and Sung did. And don't get me wrong. I know it is kind of "evaluation version," from which i took this screenshot, but I'm a legitimate fan and do plan to purchase legit DVD and will download this movie from iTune store once it becomes available. But I just needed to get some images from there before those things become available.

OK. Enough about my execuse.

Yes. Justin did it! Even though I'm not the type of the person who is crazy about cars, I enjoyed this movie a lot maily the first 10 minutes. Excellent! I'm really proud of them.

I heard there will be a bonus feature where we can see Han does more. I can't wait to see that.

Sung as a producer

According to IMDB, there are three works Sung participated as a producer or co-producer. Two of them are the ones Sung was also in it as an actor, but there is one which Sung does not show up.

Talk to Taka
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0274924/

I was a little surprised when I found this work listed in Sung's page, because I remember watching this in 2000. Back then, I was working in Long Island, NY. I had a couple of friends trying to start up some kind of online video portal site as a side business and asked me to check out iFilm.com as an example of what they want to do. This site seems not longer be around or merged to some other business. When I typed this in, I was re-directed to another site, which seems not to be related at all. Maybe they sold the domain name and went out of business. Anyway, I remember wathing this short clip back then. Back then, I was working with a company where one of the managers is a nephew of Pat Morita's. But even without that, I know Pat Morita from Karate Kid, of course.

Well, there is no conclusion for what I'm saying here. I just felt happy when I found Sung was involved with the project which I enjoyed back in 2000. I think I meant to be Sung's fan since then.

Regarding the side business idea, I forgot what exactly happened. But those friends become busy with their personal lives (found a new gf, etc.) and we just lost our interest in pursuing this. I guess I was one of those thousands who'd say "I could've been the YouTube founder if I stayed there a little longer back then..."

Sung's next move (?)

http://www.alivenotdead.com/daniel/Dustin-Nguyen-and-Sung-Kang-respect-to-AAA-s--profile-593010.html

Sorry for not updating this blog for a while! Like I said in my previous article, I have been out of country for almost a month. But I have been checking out my google alert with key word, "Sung Kang." So, I detected the post I'm referring to here a few days ago.

It is always good to see the latest look of Sung's. I also found this article talking about the possible next work for him.

http://celluloidandcigaretteburns.blogspot.com/2009/04/akira-2011.html

But I guess it is still a rumor level so far. I saw this movie (animation) when I was in highschool. I won a pair of free movie tickets from a contest in a magazine. Back then, I was crazy about reading cartoons of this sort. (Well, not any more. After I moved to the states, I gave up on this hobby.) I remember seeing this movie with my younger brother back then. If Sung will be there, that'll be great. But I want him to get a major role like Kaneda here, not like one of the gang members.

PREMIERE on 3/12

One of my friends went to see FF4 Premire last week. I envy her~~

I will be out of country again starting next Monday, and won't be back until late April. I won't be able to see FF4 until then.

I won't be able to update this blog for a while, neither. But I plan to continue working on this once I come back.
